Vol 3 – Chapter 40 (3)

Host Zhuo Jin turned toward the female guests and asked, “Do any of our ladies have questions for Guest Number Two? Just now, I noticed Female Guest Number Five, Xinhe, turned off her light. Mind if I ask why?”

Guest Number Five, Pang Xinhe, was a cool, elegant beauty with a refined aura. She replied calmly, “Sorry, I’m just not into guys who are still hung up on their exes.”

Wu Xingxue quickly explained, “It’s not that I’m still hung up on her—I’ve already moved on.”

Xinhe gave him a polite smile. Whether she believed him or not, it was hard to tell.

Zhuo Jin then looked over at Female Guest Number Nine, Mao Jiya, who had been quiet the whole time. “Jiya, what made you turn your light off?”

Mao Jiya had already anticipated the question. She delivered her prepared response smoothly: “I prefer more mature men.” She really wasn’t into guys who still acted a bit green or who had a dull personality.

After hearing both reasons, Zhuo Jin turned to Female Guest Number Three, Ping Qiongshi, who had been raising her hand, eager to speak. “Qiongshi, did you have a question?”

With a smile, she asked, “I just wanted to know—where do you plan to live in the future?”

Wu Xingxue looked a little nervous. “I’ll be staying in Dalian, since my career is based there.” He wasn’t sure if his answer would go over well, but the rest of the female guests listened closely too.

“I see,” Ping Qiongshi replied, then lowered her mic. The male guest awkwardly licked his lips.

Zhuo Jin continued, “Wang Yun, do you have a question?”

She nodded. “If your girlfriend didn’t want to move to Dalian, would you stay somewhere else for her?”

Wu Xingxue thought about it, then shook his head. “Sorry, I probably wouldn’t.”

Wang Yun responded simply, “Okay, got it.” Truth be told, his answer didn’t surprise her. She did feel a bit of a spark with Guest Number Two, but her home and career were both in Shanghai—and she knew her parents would never be okay with her marrying someone from another city.

Wang Yun was starting to regret impulsively hitting the “Heartthrob Alert” button earlier. Wu Xingxue, aware of how serious the gesture was, gave the question from contestant six a lot of thought before answering. But seeing the pensive look on her face now, he had a sinking feeling this matchmaking attempt was going downhill.

Just then, another female contestant raised her hand. “Alright, female contestant number seven, Xiao Yu,” Zhuo Jin gestured for her to speak.

Xiao Yu asked, “Hi there. Can I ask about your family background? In the video, you seemed to be living alone—are you renting that place?” What she really wanted to know was his financial situation, just in a more subtle way.

Mu Fu wasn’t at all surprised by the question. After a few episodes of getting to know her, it was pretty clear Xiao Yu came on the show hoping to land a rich guy. Without checking out a contestant’s family background, how else would she make her move?

Wu Xingxue carefully considered his words before answering. “No, I bought that apartment with money I earned during university. I’m an only child, and I moved out right after graduation. I’ve been living on my own ever since.”

His answer subtly hinted that his relationship with his family wasn’t the best. Whether the others caught it or not, Mu Fu definitely picked up on it.

If she were truly interested in someone, she wouldn’t care much about his background or family situation. Of course, if the family was a complete mess, that was another story. While she could tolerate it, it would just make everything unnecessarily complicated.

Mu Fu could afford to think this way—she had the confidence and the resources to back it up. This was the third world she’d transmigrated into, and she hadn’t wasted her time in the previous two.

She was constantly learning, taking every chance to gain knowledge. With her photographic memory, studying was a breeze and yielded amazing results. In this world, she already had a solid fan base. As long as she didn’t self-sabotage, she could easily thrive as a multitalented livestreamer using the skills she’d picked up in her past lives. Not to mention, with her looks, she could even break into the entertainment industry—though she wasn’t planning on that just yet.

When no one else raised their hand, Zhuo Jin asked, “Anyone else with a question?”

Mu Fu knew exactly what was coming next — the male guest’s turn to choose. She wasn’t interested in continuing any further, so she quietly turned off her light. Her light went dark immediately. Mu Fu had kept her light on this long not because she was interested in contestant number two, but because she thought he left a good impression.

Zhuo Jin carefully counted the remaining lights and announced, “There are still four lights on. We’ll now move on to the male guest’s selection round.”

“Huh?” Wu Xingxue looked a little confused.

Zhuo Jin explained, “You’ll need to walk over and turn off the lights of three female guests. The one whose light you leave on—you’ll get a chance to confess to her later.”

Wu Xingxue nodded, signaling that he understood. He first walked over to Mu Fu’s side of the stage. Over there, only female guest number four, Lai Haier, still had her light on. Mu Fu was contestant number one, seated at the far end of the female guests’ row. Number two sat beside her, and the others followed in numerical order.

When Wu Xingxue reached Lai Haier, he avoided meeting her pleading eyes. She was silently begging him not to turn her light off. But in the end, he did. “Sorry.” He bowed deeply as he apologized. Dealing with other people’s affection wasn’t easy for him.

The remaining lights belonged to contestant ten, Pu Qiaoyun; contestant eight, Feng Qiyu; and contestant six, Wang Yun — the one who had hit the “Heartthrob Alert” button for him. Wu Xingxue quickly turned off the lights for contestants ten and eight, leaving only Wang Yun’s light on. It seemed that the “Heartthrob Alert” move had really made an impression on him.

Wang Yun, the one whose light remained on, smiled slightly. She was clearly in a great mood.

Zhuo Jin then called Wu Xingxue back to center stage. As the music started playing, Zhuo Jin made a grand announcement:

“Let’s welcome female contestant number six, Wang Yun, to the confession seat!”

Wang Yun had to make her way up to the host’s stage, where the “crush reveal” would also take place shortly. As she walked, she gently covered her mouth with one hand, clearly overwhelmed with emotion. The corners of her eyes shimmered faintly, hinting at unshed tears.

Once she was in place, Zhuo Jin turned to the audience. “Alright, who do you think is the lady our number two bachelor has a crush on?” The audience shouted out guesses—some calling Mu Fu’s name, others shouting for a few different female guests. Zhuo Jin simply smiled without saying a word.

After letting the excitement build a bit more, he finally said, “Let’s welcome our number five female guest!”

Romantic music started to play. The audience gasped—clearly surprised. No one expected number two’s crush to be none other than the woman known for her cool and aloof goddess aura: Pang Xinhe.

Mu Fu was surprised, too. The number two male guest didn’t seem like the talkative type, and pairing up with someone that cold… wouldn’t life be incredibly dull? No excitement at all. Even a casual outing might feel more like a silent retreat than a fun day out.

Pang Xinhe looked visibly caught off guard as well. She hadn’t expected it either. Still, she followed the host’s cue and stepped forward. Now, both female guests stood in position, facing the male guest.

Wu Xingxue turned toward the host. “Brother Jin, may I ask the ladies a question now?”

Zhuo Jin nodded.

With that, Wu Xingxue turned back to the two women. “Do you like dogs? And… if possible, would you be willing to raise one as a pet?” He looked at them with sincere curiosity.

Wang Yun picked up the mic first. “I love dogs! I actually have a corgi at home.” She answered with a cheerful smile.

All eyes turned to Pang Xinhe, waiting for her reply.

She remained as cool and composed as ever. With a calm expression, she said, “Sorry, I’m allergic to dog hair.” She clearly had no interest in Male Guest Number Two, and it showed—she didn’t care whether her answer aligned with his or not.

The host, Brother Jin, gave the male guest a moment to think. After a short pause, he asked, “Male guest number two, have you made your choice?”

Wu Xingxue’s face turned slightly red as he nodded. Then, turning toward Pang Xinhe, he said, “I’m sorry. The person I choose is Female Guest Number Six—Wang Yun.”

Realizing she wasn’t the one, Pang Xinhe smiled politely. “That’s alright,” she replied, and without waiting for the host’s cue, calmly returned to her seat.

Now only Wu Xingxue and Wang Yun remained on stage. Once Pang Xinhe had left, the host, too, stepped away. Wu Xingxue was handed a bouquet of roses, already prepared by the staff. He looked directly at Wang Yun, but his nervousness was obvious—his face still faintly blushing.

“We haven’t known each other for very long,” he began, “so you probably don’t know me well yet. But I’m someone who’s sincere. I can promise you—wherever I go, I’ll let you know. I’ll even hand over my salary.” His voice trembled slightly.

The audience gasped.

Audience Member 1: “Turning over the salary card? Yes, please!”

Audience Member 2: “Now that’s a good man!”

……

He continued, “I’ve got a gentle temper—I’ve never gotten into a fight with anyone, and I’d never raise my voice at you. So… would you give me the chance to watch sunrises and sunsets with you?”

Wang Yun was deeply touched—and also conflicted. Aside from living in different places, he checked all her boxes. And the truth was, she really did want to be with him. He was exactly her type.

Seeing Wang Yun hesitate in silence, Wu Xingxue started to panic. He’d been nervous from the start, and now he looked even more unsure, not knowing what to do. That’s when host Brother Jin stepped in to help.

“Wang Yun,” he asked gently, “is there something holding you back?” She hadn’t expected him to hit the nail right on the head.

She nodded, a troubled expression on her face. “My work and family are all in Shanghai, and honestly… my family doesn’t want me dating someone from out of town.”

Brother Jin turned to the male guest. “Would you like to respond?”

Wu Xingxue fidgeted with the microphone, picking it up and putting it down several times before finally speaking. “I can move to Shanghai. Actually, our kindergarten has branches here too, so I can apply for a transfer.” There was a flash of determination and sincerity in his eyes.

Wang Yun was momentarily stunned, realizing he was willing to relocate just for her. A bright smile spread across her face, warm and gentle. She stepped forward and accepted the bouquet of roses from him.

Wu Xingxue gently pulled her into a hug. At that moment, the familiar lyrics of Let’s Get Married played through the studio:

🎶 Oh my love, let’s get married…

I want to build a home with you.

This is the most beautiful dream of my life… 🎶

Hand in hand, the two of them accepted the congratulatory gifts from the show’s sponsor, awarded to couples who left the stage together. They exchanged a smile and walked off the stage, fingers interlaced. The entire studio erupted in applause, blessing their new beginning.
